As a Product Design Intern at Zu AI, you'll be a real contributor on a small, fast-moving team — not someone fetching coffee. This is a chance to apply your skills to a product that genuinely changes students' lives, and to learn from designers who care deeply about craft.
Your Role
- Design Impact: Contribute to designing and improving the Zu AI app, helping create an engaging and intuitive user experience.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with design, product, and engineering teams to tackle the problems that matter most to our users.
- Ownership and Growth: Take features end-to-end with guidance from senior designers, learning to balance design and business constraints. As an early-career designer, you'll build a real portfolio fast — and strong interns have a clear path to a full-time role.
- Detail-oriented Craft: At Zu AI, we respect and value good design. Every detail is thoughtfully added to make the product functional, beautiful, and accessible.
💯 You'd Fit In If
- You're a student, recent grad, or early in your product design career.
- You have a portfolio (course work, side projects, or past internships are all fine) that shows how you think, not just final screens.
- You're comfortable in Figma and willing to learn other tools quickly.
- You understand that great work is collaborative and you treat feedback as a tool for improvement.
- You have some exposure to (or genuine curiosity about) design systems.
- You have good taste and high standards for your own work.
- (Bonus) Basic prototyping/animation skills using any tool of choice, such as After Effects.
🛠️ What You Will Do
First Week
- Understand our vision and mission.
- Get full access to our Figma files and comfortable with our Design System.
- Start making small contributions to ongoing features to learn our design philosophy and language.
First Month
- Design a core feature of Zu AI from scratch, with support from the team, and hand it off to our developers.
- Pick the next part of Zu AI to work on with enough context to run with it.
- Help document and organize parts of our Design System.
First 3 Months
- Ship most of the work you've contributed to.
- Take on new projects and support the Product team with ideation.
